My practice is regularly recognised in the international ranking of The Legal 500. Examples of disputes I have worked on:
- Appeal to the FOSFA Board against a multinational corporation – established force majeure caused by the war in Ukraine in a dispute worth US$1.2 million. On appeal, the award was reduced from US$1.2 million to US$350,000.
- Black Sea Commodities Ltd v Lemarc Agromond PTE Ltd [2021] EWHC 287 (Comm) – advised Black Sea Commodities in proceedings concerning the jurisdiction of a GAFTA arbitration. The Court set aside the GAFTA arbitral award on the ground of no jurisdiction.
- Trans-Oil International SA v Savoy Trading LP, Ivan Melnykov [2020] EWHC 57 (Comm) – advised Mr Melnykov on an application for a worldwide freezing order. The Court refused to freeze Mr Melnykov's assets. View all matters
- Letter-of-credit defence in GAFTA arbitration – represented an American company against a state-owned corporation from a South American country.
- FOSFA appeal on a US$28 million dispute – advised a major Turkish law firm on the appeal of a FOSFA arbitral award.
- Default judgment in the High Court worth US$1.3 million – represented a Ukrainian sunflower oil seller in a FOSFA arbitration and subsequent English court proceedings against an Estonian company effectively controlled by a Ukrainian national resident in London. Based on an audio recording of the breach and the identification of family ties between key figures, a default judgment was obtained in the High Court, leading to a voluntary payment of US$1.3 million.
In November 2024, I was the key speaker at the Gafta training course in Cape Town as part of the Gafta Professional Development (GPD) programme, where I led two-day sessions on contract law, payments, force majeure, insurance, and arbitration.
In 2021, I conducted the first-ever Gafta legal webinar on instalment deliveries and developed a training course, which is available on the Gafta website.
I am fluent in English, Ukrainian, and Russian, and I also speak conversational Spanish.
